Wahiawa Reservoir, HI

Hawaii's best freshwater fishery, Wahiawa Reservoir, aka Lake Wilson is a 400-acre reservoir in north-central O'ahu, at Wahiawa, HI.

Wahiawa Reservoir, also known as Lake Wilson, is located in the central section of Oahu, Hawaii. This scenic reservoir is a popular fishing destination for both locals and tourists alike. The calm and serene waters of Wahiawa Reservoir provide a peaceful setting for anglers to enjoy their fishing experience.

The reservoir is known for its abundant fish population, making it an excellent spot for fishing enthusiasts. Some of the popular fish species found in Wahiawa Reservoir include largemouth bass, peacock bass, tilapia, and catfish. The presence of these different fish species adds excitement and variety to fishing trips at the reservoir.

Boating is also a popular activity on Wahiawa Reservoir. Anglers often take to the waters in kayaks, canoes, or small motorboats to explore different fishing spots and reach areas that are inaccessible from the shore. Boating provides an opportunity to cover more water and increases the chances of catching a variety of fish.

For those visiting Wahiawa Reservoir for fishing, it is essential to check local fishing regulations and obtain the necessary permits before casting a line. Respecting the rules and guidelines ensures sustainable fishing practices and helps preserve the natural beauty of the reservoir for future generations to enjoy.

About 20 miles of shoreline encompass the north fork and south fork of these fertile fishing waters. Anglers can fish for bass, catfish, bluegill, tilapia and peacock bass in this quality bass fishery. All bass and peacock bass must be released immediately as this is a catch and release only lake for these species. See details for Wahiawa Lake here. Muddy water in winter (November through March), caused by excessive rain makes for poor fishing. The remaining months are warmer with considerably less rain, making it the better time to fish for bass and peacock bass. There is a boat launch, restrooms and picnic tables at Wahiawā Freshwater State Recreation Area. Use of boats is permitted for fishing only - no water sports or sightseeing. Kayaks and canoes are a popular way to fish this serene waterway. Shoreline fishing is available at the rec area and several other access points around the lake. Local fishing guides can enhance a day of fishing here.
